King Arthur – Unleashed: plot, cast and streaming of the film
Tonight, Friday 12 April 2024, at 9.20 pm on Italia 1, King Arthur – Unleashed by the Sword, a 2017 film co-produced, co-written and directed by Guy Ritchie, will be broadcast. Inspired by Thomas Malory's The Death of Arthur, the film tells the story of King Arthur, played by Charlie Hunnam. Also part of the cast are Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey as the sorceress, Jude Law as the antagonist Vortigern, Djimon Hounsou as Bedivere and Eric Bana as Uther Pendragon. According to Warner Bros.' plans, the film was supposed to be the first part of a series of six films dedicated to King Arthur, but after the commercial failure of the film the sequels were removed. Former footballer David Beckham appears in a cameo as Scarface, a guard who supervises the prisoners attempting to extract Excalibur from the stone. Plot
Mordred, a great wizard, and his armies, attack Camelot, trying to establish the dominion of the wizards, who seek to subjugate humanity thanks to magic. Uther Pendragon, king of the Britons, reaches the wizard during the battle, killing him, destroying his men and saving Camelot. After the battle, Uther's brother, Vortigern, orchestrates a plot against the king himself and, sacrificing his wife Elsa to the sea witches, becomes a knight with demonic features, killing the queen and subsequently Uther Pendragon himself. The only survivor is Uther's son, who leaves on a boat and is transported by the current to Londinium, where he is found and raised in a brothel by some prostitutes, who give him the name Arthur. In his youth Arthur becomes an expert fighter and a man of the street, supported by his friends Tristan and Mangiagalli. One day the three are confronted by a group of Vikings led by Kjartan “Grey Beard”, who had mistreated one of the prostitutes, forcing them to pay the women a year's wages for their disrespectful behavior. Subsequently the brothel is stormed by the black masks, Vortigern's soldiers, and Arthur learns that the Vikings were guests of the king and attacking them was a crime against the king himself. Arthur tries to escape the city, but is captured by the Black Masks and put on a ship with hundreds of other men. He thus learns that a mysterious and magical sword has appeared near Vortigern Castle, and the black masks are forcing all men of Arthur's age to try to extract it from the stone in which it is stuck. When young Arthur's turn comes, he draws his sword, but is overwhelmed by its power, fainting.
