Hyundai immediately in command
The Safari Rally 2024 officially began today with the first special stage of Kasarani, the only one of the day. In a one-on-one challenge near Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, the leader of the championship set the best time Thierry Neuvillewith the Hyundai protagonist with both the Belgian and the Estonian driver Oct Tänak.
Tänak one tenth from the top
Neuville, who stopped the clock at 3:19.9, beat by just a tenth of a second his teammate, with the Korean manufacturer thus concluding the first test with a double. A gap between the two equal to that between the reigning champion Kalle Rovanperä, 3rd in the standings, and the other Toyota of Takamoto Katsuta. Further back Elfyn Evans, sixth and behind Esapekka Lappi, fresh from victory in the last Swedish Rally. The Safari Rally will resume as normal tomorrow at 6.15am, with the first of six scheduled tests. None of these will be broadcast live by Sky Sports, but only via the RallyTV subscription on the official competition website.
