Ken Akamatsu, author of highly regarded manga series such as Love Hina And Negima: Magister Negi Magi, recently made a big announcement about Twitter, revealing something unexpected to his followers. How do you say? The announcement of a new manga? Not at all!
The next project to which Akamatsu he will dedicate himself is, in fact, to become a politician, and thus bring his own ideas and battles, more precisely, about freedom of expression into the Japanese parliament.

The news has already been reported by some media, but I recently attended a meeting at the headquarters of the Liberal Democratic Party. To try to protect freedom of expression, I made the decision to run for the election of the House of Councilors next summer.
Over the past few years Akamatsu he was somewhat of a spokesperson for freedom of artistic expression with regards to manga and anime, issuing statements whenever he perceived that freedom was being violated by unfair regulations or pressures. He is also the principal advisor of the Hyogen no Jiyu wo Mamoru Kai (Association to Protect Freedom of Expression), an organization founded in 2016 by Taro Yamada, member of the Liberal Democratic Party and of Chamber of Councilors, who has been very committed to protecting the artistic freedoms of manga and anime creators.
