In ‘It was always me’, Karol Sevilla plays the daughter of the “Colombian folklore idol”, who dies in an accident. Her character, ‘Lupe,’ studies journalism and leaves her native Mexico to attend her funeral. While inquiring about her death, she signs up for a singing contest promoted by her father’s manager. During the competition she will be accompanied by ‘Noah’ (pipe good). “Part of what’s interesting about this series is that it’s not far from reality. That is what we are going to see: ambitions of the managers, the careers of the artists that are surrounded, perhaps, by liquor and certain excesses. Obviously with Disney nuances, but it is different, I mean, there is a gay couple. It is not far from reality and that makes many people feel identified with this great story, ”replies the musician by Zoom, about the series that premieres today.

Karol Sevilla says that she understands from a personal level what the series deals with. A manager took away her passport from the actress so that she would not travel to Argentina to record ‘Soy Luna’, the production that would make her popular throughout Latin America. “She has touched me (dealing with) hard, but I think I am very grateful for those teachings, especially for the person I am today. And thanks to that, Disney trusted my work once again and wanted me to put on my backpack of responsibility again to carry this project that is undoubtedly spectacular”, she tells us about ‘It was always me’.
“Disney is taking a risk to do something completely new. The conflict of a murder had never been touched. Personally, I have in my forehead that Disney it’s a pink color and then I see a gun in the booklet and I say: ‘how?’ (laughs) Disney?’ So, it has been a beautiful experience, coming to live in Colombia, recording for a few months, getting to know Cartagena and also having the responsibility of playing such a complicated character, new to the public that has seen me in ‘Soy Luna’”. He anticipates that a 13-song album will come out with the series. “The interesting thing is that we sing two completely different genres. And this is doing something more pop, more Disney, I’m familiar with that and people have liked it”.

“We are in the 21st century, things have changed”
For both, the changes at Disney regarding developing more series in Latin America, having more female leads and including representation LGBTIIt is part of going according to the times. “We are in the 21st century, things have changed and I think it is spectacular that they do this type of project, right? New things and that they also risk doing it. Above all, that they include us all in many aspects. I think Disney’s number one message is that we are all the same, no matter what religion or what you like as long as you are happy and follow your dreams,” says Sevilla and the Colombian adds: “They are representing something that is happening and I think it is very smart of you to be at the forefront. Also, today it is no longer a taboo to talk about this kind of thing. We make the taboo when we want not to talk about something that we know exists. This removes the taboos”.
Bueno adds that there is a certain responsibility when joining Disney. “I think they put another ‘shirt’ on you and you have to be very attentive, but I think we’ve always had the responsibility, since we have the ability to influence. Now I’m a dad and believe me I understand that we have to be careful with what we say and do.”
