Justice issued an international warrant to arrest Marcus Slaughter, accused of falsifying his Equatoguinean passport when he was a Real Madrid basketball player, but two weeks later he still has not appeared. The judge opted for a drastic measure after the insistence of FC Barcelona and after seven years searching without success for the former white center. At the judicial level, Slaughter’s whereabouts are unknown, but according to his Instagram, he lives peacefully in his home in the United States with his wife and children without hiding from anyone. The arrest warrant aims to deliver the summons to him to appear at the trial that will be held in Madrid on November 5.
The measure, although forceful, has proven ineffective and Slaughter’s presence at the trial is unknown. If he does not appear, the hearing would be held without him and with the presence of the rest of the defendants who participated in the efforts to issue the fraudulent document. If no one else disappears, Richard Nguema, former player of the Real Madrid basketball reserve team, will sit on the bench; Julián Aranda, player representative; Hugo López, coach in the Guinean league; and the Fuenlabrada player who obtained a passport with the same number as Slaughter’s, Andy Panko. The inability to find Slaughter has led a lawyer prosecuting the case to look for a less orthodox way to contact him: he left him a message on Instagram informing him that justice is looking for him. It is the only way that has occurred to him to solve the fruitless search process.

The center played 12 games with Real Madrid with Equatoguinean nationality, which thanks to the agreement Cotonou It allowed the white club to free up a non-EU position. The team then led by Pablo Laso won the League and the Copa del Rey. FC Barcelona is involved in the legal case and in the event of a conviction it will claim before the sole judge of the ACB the withdrawal of the two titles due to improper alignment.
The Barça club requests a sentence of 2 and a half years in prison for Slaughter for the crimes of document falsification and corruption in the sporting field, the same sentence that the Basketball Players Association is interested in. The Prosecutor’s Office, however, demands 16 months in prison. Real Madrid is not listed as an investigated club because all the accusations understood that although it could have benefited from the crime, it acted as a third party in good faith. The passage of time – nine years since the events were reported – plays in favor of the accused who could benefit from the mitigation of undue delays which would mean, in the event of conviction, a significant reduction in sentences.
