Setback of the Barcelona Court to the claim of the former director of the National Intelligence Center (CNI) Paz Esteban to archive the case that keeps her accused of spying with the Pegasus program on the former president of the Generalitat Pere Aragonès. “The investigation is not exhausted,” the magistrates conclude.
In an order, which elDiario.es has had access to, the magistrates of the 9th section of the Barcelona Court warn Esteban that filing the case now would be “premature” and that it is necessary to complete the thorough investigation of the cause that Judge Santiago García commands.
The instructor’s superiors support Judge García’s instruction and warn Esteban that the results of proceedings such as the expert report regarding the former president’s motive are still to be known. The Prosecutor’s Office had also requested the file of the case discarded by the magistrates.
The court insistently points out “the need to effectively exhaust the investigation and avoid premature closures”, as established by law for all cases and, in particular, as recommended by the European Parliament regarding the espionage scandal with the Pegasus program.
The closure of the investigation, the officers warn, is still far away, since in addition to the expert report on Aragonès’ phone, several letters rogatory addressed to Israel and Luxembourg, a European country in which NSO Group, Israeli manufacturer of the ‘ spy software, has a subsidiary
