Mexico City.- Federal judges and magistrates will begin an internal consultation on Monday to determine whether or not to approve the end of the suspension of work on October 2, as agreed on Friday by the Federal Judicial Council (CJF).
This was announced by the National Association of Circuit Magistrates and District Judges of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (JUFED), in a statement in which it assumes for the first time a transition to implement judicial reform.
“In order to comply with the agreements reached between the representatives of workers and owners with the Federal Judicial Council, for the formation of plural working groups that allow for the broadest protection of our rights in the transition period of the implementation of the reform, the participating organizations will begin today, September 23, 2024, the consultation process on the conclusion of the suspension of activities with attention to urgent cases,” he said. “This consultation process will be carried out under the internal rules of each representation and in accordance with the modalities that make the consultation effective. The result will be communicated in due time by each of the convening organizations.”
The association, headed by federal judge Juana Fuentes Velázquez, said that the consultation to ratify the lifting of the strike or extend it will be carried out without prejudice to the actions of legal defense and peaceful protest against the reform, in the modalities they deem appropriate.
Last Wednesday, the CJF decided by 5 votes to 2 to resume activities in the Judicial Branch of the Federation, starting this Monday. The workers, however, began a series of protests at the headquarters of the Judiciary, and on Friday, by 4 votes to 3, the CJF overturned the agreement it had made two days earlier, to postpone the reopening until October 2. Although this last decision was made by the counselors, after sitting at a dialogue table with representatives of judges and workers who demand guarantees for their labor rights, the justice administrators are submitting to consultation as of today what was agreed by the CJF.
