Juan Lobato resigns as general secretary of the PSOE of Madrid after the ABC exclusive. The until now leader of the Madrid socialists, who denounced this Tuesday a “lynching” by leaders of his party, assured this Wednesday in a letter that he has made this decision “to put a stop to a situation of confrontation and serious division that “It was being generated in the game.”
Lobato’s situation as general secretary of the Madrid PSOE was unsustainable, since he had lost the support and trust not only of the national leadership, but of a good part of its regional executive, of the parliamentary and municipal group in Madrid and of other leaders. , mayors, councilors and party officials in the region. The majority agreed that could not reach the federal congress this weekend in Seville.
The information from ABC, about La Moncloa’s maneuvers to leak confidential data from Ayuso’s boyfriend and try to use Lobato for this and to use it against President Ayuso, has been the trigger of the entire party crisis in Madrid. Lobato tried to explain why he had gone to the notary to record the conversation he had with Óscar López’s chief of staff in Moncloa, about the information about Ayuso’s partner, but he only managed to confuse his entire party. Precisely, next Friday he will be summoned as a witness in the Supreme Court, to explain the content of the conversation he had before the notary.
Lobato made public his resignation letter this Wednesday, after two in the afternoon, after making a statement to the media on Tuesday to denounce the “lynching” that he was suffering from his party, to warn that no one and no political party is above the law and to emphasize that the PSOE is not a sect, but “a party of militants.”
His resignation letter begins like this: «I have made the decision not to continue as General Secretary of the PSOE of Madrid. I do it for put a stop to a situation of serious confrontation and division that was being generated in the party, that was only going to damage the PSOE in Madrid and the progress in unity that we had achieved in these three years. My goal has always been to build an ambitious and hopeful project for Madrid, and this should continue to be the case in the future.
The until now leader of the Madrid socialists distances himself from that policy that consists of annihilating the adversary: «I do not believe in the destruction of the adversaryin the annihilation of those who disagree and those who think differently. I insist: for me politics is something else. And loyalty to my party is to work to implement its principles, what it has been representing for more than 145 years: equality, freedom, democracy, education and public health, the defense of the most vulnerable, not letting no one behind.”
Lobato also distances himself from the leadership of his party, with Sánchez at the helm: «None of us are essential. It is much more important at all times to protect and promote good politics than those of us who exercise it circumstantially. Without a doubt my way of doing politics is not the same nor perhaps sometimes compatible with that of a majority of the current leadership of my party. No problem. I assume it democratically. But I can’t give up being who I am and how I have always been.
In his letter, he assures that he is leaving the leadership, but not the PSOE, where he will continue as a militant: «My commitment to the PSOE remains and will continue to be there. Today I take a step towards leadership. But you have my commitment that in each future stage that corresponds I will assume my responsibility as a militant to help the party continue working to improve people’s lives.
