The journalist and writer Víctor de la Serna, founder of the newspaper El Mundo, died this Friday at the age of 77, according to the same newspaper. Four days ago he suffered a heart attack outside the newspaper. De la Serna was part of the founding team of El Mundo in 1989, a newspaper where he has worked until the last day of his life.
A polyglot and from a family of journalists, De la Serna was the first Spaniard to graduate in Journalism from Columbia University in New York. Born in Madrid in 1947, between 1968 and 1972 he was editor of the newspaper ‘Informaciones’, where he founded and directed the first documentation service established by a Spanish newspaper. Throughout his career as a journalist, he stood out in numerous areas, from international information to gastronomy and sports. He was a three-time winner of the National Gastronomy Award. Currently, he worked as a columnist and was also secretary of the jury for the El Mundo International Journalism Awards.
