The former sporting director of Barcelona, Jordi Cruyff, defended this Thursday that “to praise Hansi Flick it is not necessary to bash others”, in reference to the German’s predecessor on the Barça bench, Xavi Hernández.
Cruyff wanted to highlight the work that the man from Terrassa did as a coach: “He also did important things like winning the League and in very difficult circumstances.” In fact, the former sports director has gone further and also wanted to give importance to the task that Ronald Koeman did: “There was a coach who did not win titles, but who gave Gavi, Pedri or Araujo their debut. “Everything is a process and there is an evolution.”
“Xavi also did important things like winning the League in very difficult circumstances.”
In a statement from Sitges on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the last game his father Johan played, Jordi Cruyff has assessed Barça’s sporting performance this season and has indicated that, in his opinion, Flick “does not move away from the” culer philosophy: “The Barça DNA is not only a game system, it is also a purpose. “If you want to be dominant, if you give minutes to the youth players… that is the DNA of the club.”
In this sense, then, he has positively valued that the German is giving opportunities to the young people of La Masia: “They are taking the opportunity with both hands and the people of Barça like to see youth players who complete the process in this way.”
“Barça DNA is not only a game system, it is also a purpose, like wanting to be dominant and give minutes to the youth players.”
The tribute event held this Thursday was organized by the Johan Cruyff Foundation and was also attended by Danny Cruyff, Johan’s widow. At the same time, the Johan Cruyff Memorial was held, in which some of the ‘Dream Team’ stars such as Julio Salinas, José Mari Bakero, Eusebio Sacristán and Joan Andoni Goikoetxea played.
