The former Monty Python Terry Gilliam, the brilliant director to whom we owe masterpieces such as Brazil, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, is forming an all-star cast for his next film, titled “The Carnival at the End of Days”. The film will tell about God and his desire to destroy mankind.
Gilliam explained that the only one who will try to save our vapid species will be Satan, played by none other than Johnny Depp, an actor to whom we owe, among others, the roles of Edward Scissorhands and Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. Depp had previously worked with Gilliam on Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
A cast of stars
Why does the devil want to save us? Because he needs people to go to hell, otherwise he won’t be able to keep his job for eternity, Gilliam explained.
As mentioned, the cast of the film will be really rich. In addition to Depp there will also be Jeff Bridges as God and Adam Driver and Jason Momoa in two roles not yet revealed.
Gilliam is currently looking for an actress to complete the cast. Filming should begin next January, but much will depend on the commitments of the various actors.
In short, Depp seems to be recovering after the legal events that saw him pitted against his ex-wife Amber Heard, from whom he came out completely clean (apart from the bed). Despite this, part of Hollywood closed the door in his face, taking away his characters, such as the aforementioned Jack Sparrow, and marginalizing him, so much so that he was defined as “persona non grata” in the film industry.
