The Executive Order, signed by the President of the United States last Wednesday afternoon, prohibits chokeholds, restricts no-knock entries and toughens use-of-force policies to emphasize de-escalation and the duty to intervene. .
It also modernizes surveillance with new tools to screen and vet agents, Biden said in a White House statement.
“I have met the family of George Floyd over the years and promised them that his name would not become just a hashtag. Today I signed an Executive Order to fulfill that promise and enact the most significant police reform in decades.”
