The American president, Joe Biden, cut the lead of the former president Donald Trump (2017-2021) ahead of the presidential elections next November, at a time when the majority of voters express negative opinions about both opponents.

In this close head-to-head between Biden and Trump, The share of those who say they have a high interest in the presidential race has reached its lowest level in nearly 20 years, with only 64% of registered voters having a high interest in the election.
This is a significantly lower figure than that collected by NBC News on these dates in the 2008 (74%), 2012 (67%), 2016 (69%), and 2020 (77%) presidential races.
The survey was conducted from April 12 to 16, at a very turbulent time in American politics, coinciding with the start of Trump's criminal trial in New York, as well as new attacks and heightened tensions in the Middle East.
This latest nationwide poll from NBC News finds that inflation and immigration top the list of the most important problems facing the country, while only a third of voters give Biden credit for an improving economy.
Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates, who conducted the poll with Republican Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies, said, “Americans don't agree on much these days, but nothing unites the country more than the desire to stop paying attention to these elections.
The poll shows the two candidates are essentially tied among independent voters (Biden 36%, Trump 34%) and those ages 18 to 34 (Biden 44%, Trump 43%).
“One of the great mysteries of this cycle's polls is whether young voters have deserted Biden,” or whether Democrats have maintained their advantage among this demographic, the survey notes.
Although Trump has a two percentage point advantage over Biden in the direct confrontation, the Democratic president leads the former Republican president by two points (39% -37%) in a vote between five candidates that includes Kennedy (13%) and others third party candidates.
