P.er two days in a row from Istat positive news arrives. Yesterday it certified the increase in GDP in the fourth quarter of 2021 at + 0.6% compared to the previous year and + 6.4% in trend terms. “That means yes are recovering the losses of 2020. It is clear that the labor policies implemented by the Draghi government are generating growth and development after years of contraction and, above all, after an unprecedented pandemic, economic and social crisis. The guiding star of this executive of national unity is the good of Italy and the Italians and, despite the controversies of the last few days, we cannot fail to preserve these priorities ”, adds Bergamini.
Work: Confesercenti, recovered well but autonomous bleeding remains
“The current figure released by Istat on the unemployed in December, if on the one hand it sanctions the almost complete return, compared to the pre-pandemic period, of the employment situation with the same rate of February 2020, on the other it unfortunately emphasizes that the bleeding of the self-employed does not stop “. Thus the Confesercenti Economic Office in a note.
In fact, since January, 650,000 more people have been employed. While the job loss of self-employed workers continues, albeit at a slower pace: after the collapse of 286,000 units in 2020 (-72,000 in 2019), another 50,000 jobs were lost last year, compared to of an increase of 670 thousand units for employees, exceeding, downwards, the symbolic threshold of 5 million employed. “A trickle – concludes Confesercenti – which is affecting the system of small Italian businesses, severely tested by the pandemic, and which represents the litmus test of the limits of the recovery in progress”.
Work: Cna, employment is growing again among artisans and SMEs
Craft, micro and small businesses were driving Italy’s record growth in 2021. This was noted by the Cna Labor Observatory, edited by the Confederation Study Center, which analyzes the employment trends in small businesses on a monthly basis since 2014, at the beginning of the reform season that has profoundly changed the national labor market.
“The difference with ‘equal-sized’ countries – he explains – is made by the ‘little ones’: their flexibility allows the production system to adapt more quickly to new needs. An excellence highlighted by various indicators. Like the trend in employment, which last year among artisan, micro and small businesses grew by 1.9 percent compared to 2020, an authentic annus horribilis of the economy and, unfortunately, not only of the economy ” .
The Cna Observatory records that the increase in employment among the “little ones”, equal to 1.9 per cent, is the result of a significant increase in turnover between old and new job positions. Companies have expanded their workforce to cope with the increase in orders and, consequently, the hiring rate has risen to 2.7 per cent, compared to 2.1 in 2020 and 2.6 in 2019, the last year before Covid.
Conversely, the rate of termination of employment relationships has also started to rise again, passed from 2.2 per cent to 2.6 per cent, at the same level as in 2019. A figure that demonstrates the unblocking of the labor market and the reactivation of the normal rotation of contracts, as well as a more limited use of social safety nets.
“These results, ‘photographed’ as a whole, they demonstrate unequivocally – affirms Cna – that in 2021 the production system of the “little ones” managed to intercept the strong economic recovery, just as it had resisted the recession with stubbornness. Capacity that in 2022 will have to face unexpected obstacles until a few months ago: the flare-up of energy costs, the increase in the prices of raw materials, the shortage of specialized personnel. Obstacles that the “little ones” cannot face alone “.
