The documentary “Doleira: The Story of Nelma Kodama” premieres on June 6, 2024 on Netflix. It is directed by João Wainer.
Kodama was arrested in 2014 with 200,000 euros hidden in her clothes. She was accused in Lava Jato of illegally operating currency exchange with corrupt money.
The then judge and now senator Sergio Moro (União Brasil-PR) sentenced Kodama in 2014 to 18 years in prison. She made a plea bargain in 2016 and was placed under house arrest. She used an electronic ankle bracelet until 2019.
In 2022, she was arrested in Portugal on drug trafficking charges and ended up extradited to Brazil. She had her plea bargain revoked in April 2023.
