The Japanese man lost two memory sticks on Tuesday that held the personal information of nearly half a million people. Police found the sticks a few days later.
Forty a Japanese man lost two flash drives containing 460,000 personal data on Tuesday night in the city of Suita.
The matter is reported by the British Broadcasting Corporation BBC and Japan Times.
According to media reports, the man had been spending the evening at a local restaurant after work. He had a backpack with two USB sticks in his pocket. Earlier on Tuesday, he had transferred to the sticks the details of all the residents of the nearby town of Amagasaki.
According to the BBC, the man drank at the restaurant for several hours. Finally, he went out into the street. When he woke up, he noticed that both his backpack and memory sticks were missing.
The Japan Times said Friday that local police found a backpack and memory sticks outside an apartment in the city.
With sticks had basic information about Amagasaki residents such as names, addresses, and birthdays. In addition, they had tax information, bank account numbers, and other information for families covered by social security. The man works for a company that deals with subsidies for tax-exempt households.
According to Amagasak city authorities, the data on the sticks is protected and cannot be accessed without a password.

According to Kela, the lost packages contained the personal data of a few dozen Kela customers. Kela reported the security breaches to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner. It is not known whether the leaked personal information was used after the loss.
