Starting this June, Japan reopened its borders for foreigners to visit the developed island. The measure comes after the difficult years due to infections and deaths from the covid-19 pandemic.
Its capital, Tokyo, was the venue for the 2020 Olympic Games (held in July 2021). But at that time no foreigners were received, as sporting events were held behind closed doors. In general, in these two years the restrictions mostly prevented the entry of people not born in the Asian country.
With the recent regulations, it will seek to reactivate tourism. Of course, the flexibility will not be entirely; the behavior of its own and visitors will continue to be monitored.
So, If you want to travel to the island, you must take into account these rules announced by the Japan Tourism Agency. If you fail to comply, you can be expelled and put on a flight back to your country.

Quarantine and test to diagnose covid-19
At the moment, only 20,000 people a day will be allowed to enter from countries where the presence of covid-19 is very low. To identify this, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs drew up a list of nations in the red, yellow and blue categories.
Tourists from Pakistan, Fiji, Albania and Sierra Leone are in red. That means that they must arrive in Japan and undergo a three-day quarantine in a place designated by the health authorities, in addition to taking a covid test that returns a negative result.

Several nations in Asia, Oceania, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America (such as Cuba, Peru, Venezuela, Uruguay, and Honduras) are in yellow. Its citizens will have a three-day quarantine at home and a covid test.
In contrast, the other countries of the world, such as Colombia, are in the blue category. Therefore, tourists should not be quarantined or tested.
It is worth saying that the anticovid vaccination certificate will be requested.
Tourist plans ‘millimetrically’ designed
All of them must first contact travel agencies and acquire a tourist plan. These companies will explain each of the Japanese standards. In Japan a tour guide will be waiting for you and will accompany you throughout your stay.
“Guides should frequently remind them of infection prevention measures, including the use of face masks, on each tour,” authorities said. The mask must be worn in all spaces, “even outdoors (…) in situations in which people talk very close.”

There is no evidence that being accompanied by tour guides reduces the risks of infection
The complete visit will be planned: hotels, restaurants, tours and transportation. For example, you will have the opportunity to try Japanese cuisine, but the site must be agreed with your guide beforehand. In addition, when you arrive at the place you will have to sit in chairs assigned for foreigners.
In contrast, the measures would be discriminating against tourists, said Kenji Shibuya, epidemiologist and director of research at the Tokyo Policy Research Foundation, in a talk with the economic media ‘Bloomberg’.
“There is no evidence that being accompanied by tour guides reduces the risks of infection. In endemic situations, people should be left to manage their own risks,” he stressed.
According to statistics from Johns Hopkins University, Japan has vaccinated 80.76% of its population against covid-19, as of June 7.
