Consumer inflation in Argentina exploded in January and reached 254.2% compared to January 2023. The result, announced by the country's National Institute of Statistics and Census (Indec), represents an acceleration after the annual increase of 211 .4% recorded in December.
In the monthly comparison, the indicator rose 20.6% in January compared to December, after recording an increase of 25.5% in December compared to November. The accumulated result in 12 months is the highest since 1991, when it registered 267%.
The numbers are a reflection of the policies adopted by President Javier Milei, who removed subsidies from several products and services.
