Jamile Samuel has won the 100 meters at the Night of Athletics in Heusden-Zolder in Belgium. Samuel, who was told earlier this week that she had been kicked out of the squad for the World Cup in the United States, triumphed in 11.36 seconds. The 100 meters consisted of two heats and Samuel set the best time.
The 30-year-old from Amsterdam was initially selected for the 4×100 meter relay for the World Championships in Eugene. On Wednesday, however, Samuel was told by the Athletics Union that she is not allowed to join. The sprinter had withdrawn from this week’s Diamond League in Stockholm because she was not feeling quite fit.
For technical director Ad Roskam, that was reason to remove Samuel from the team. The athlete reacted disappointed and aggrieved via Instagram.
Last month in Geneva, Samuel ran a 100 meters in 11.31 seconds.
