While NASA’s new telescope, the James Webb, calibrates its lenses, the Imaging X-Ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) is already showing its wings capturing amazing images. Released in December 2021, he also spent months adjusting to life in space for his work. When it was finally ready, scientists pointed it to a supernova called Cassiopeia A and there were the remains of an incredible explosion that took place in the 17th century and which still leaves a cloud of gas. For those who are used to seeing images of space recreated on a computer for science fiction films, it doesn’t seem like much – but it is the real thing, with a size of 10 light years. In fact, the color purple, yes, was added to better represent the gases, which reverted to their emitting center locate a superdense object that forms the core of the collapsed star, which may now be a Black Hole. The X-ray telescope has a mission to
two years ahead.
