Jamal ValizadehAfter abandoning his nation during his time as a student, at 33 years old he will represent the Olympic Refugee Team (EOR) in Greco-Roman Wrestling.
The athlete never took his finger off the line to qualify for a summer fair coupled with being able to compete at an international level after obtaining asylum in France since 2016.
Before his arrival, Jamal Valizadeh’s first stop was in Turkey, where “it was really hard” for working 16 hours a day for a thousand dollars after six months.
«(The employers) gave me $300 a month and I had to buy my own food. They abused me, they didn’t respect me, they spoke badly to me. I suffered a lot,” revealed Jamal Valizadeh.
It was in France where he was granted political refugee status and now with his qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games his goal is “to have a medal.”
“It’s not just being a tourist at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, but having a medal,” said the Iranian, who trains in Saarbrüjken and receives the support of coaches and sponsorship by securing a place with 35 refugee athletes.
«I have one small thing left to finish the job. Have a medal,” said Jamal Valizadeh.
