Petista was questioned about the Qatari regime, but directed a response to the sports dispute; tournament starts on sunday
the president elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Friday to journalists in Lisbon that “Arrived again” the time for Brazil to be champion of the World Cup. The petista was accompanied by the Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa, at the Palacete de São Bento.
Questioned about Qatar, which will host the tournament, António Costa said he has “a position” about the country, but that Portugal and Brazil will be there because they qualified for the competition.
“When the World Cup starts, we will be rooting for the team, not for the Qatari regime, not for the violation of human rights or discrimination against women”said the Prime Minister.
Lula provoked the Portuguese about football and avoided questions about the regime in Qatar. For the petista, Brazil is a favorite for the World Cup.
“I can humbly say that, after 20 years, the time has come for Brazil to be world champion again. Some strong teams are not, a four-time champion, which is Italy, is not, and Cristiano Ronaldo is not playing like he did 15 years ago, so we have everything to win another World Cup”said.
Lula met the Prime Minister this Friday afternoon and, before that, was received by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa at the Belém Palace.
On Saturday (19.Nov), the PT member will have a meeting with the Brazilian community in Portugal, at 9 am (Lisbon), at Iscte (University Institute of Lisbon).
On the same day, Lula returns to Brazil. He informed that, upon his return, he will announce names that will be part of the new PT government.
