Members of the Board of Directors of the Cameroon Football Federation rejected the resignation submitted by Samuel Eto'o from the presidency of the Federation, following the early exit of the Untamed Lions team from the 2023 African Cup of Nations, currently being held in Côte d'Ivoire.
The Cameroonian national team bid farewell to the continental competition, in which it won five times, after losing by two goals to the Nigerian national team in the round of 16. The Cameroonian Federation issued an official statement on its official website, following the meeting held by the Council to evaluate the national team’s performance in the tournament, where it indicated that Eto’o, One of the icons of football in the African continent submitted his resignation from the presidency of the federation, and called on the members of the Council to submit a collective resignation.
The statement explained that the members of the federation rejected Eto'o's resignation, as they renewed their confidence in him to rebuild and develop football in Cameroon, and they also rejected his departure from the council.
Eto'o, who won the African Nations Cup with Cameroon in 2000 and 2002, and advanced the team to the World Cup finals more than once, was elected president of the Cameroonian Football Federation in December 2021, and after winning his last title in the African Nations in 2017 in Gabon, the Cameroon national team was eliminated from the final round. The 16th edition of the competition was held in Egypt in 2019, before bidding farewell to the last edition of the tournament, which was held in its stadiums two years ago, by losing to Egypt on penalties, in the semi-finals.
