The negotiations
On the front of the ongoing negotiations for the release of the hostages, Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has announced that the Israeli prime minister opposes the demands made by Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. While Netanyahu “has repeatedly given the negotiating team a broad mandate to free our hostages, Sinwar continues to call for an end to the war, the withdrawal of the IDF from the Gaza Strip and keeping Hamas intact so it can carry out its October 7 atrocity, again. Prime Minister Netanyahu strongly opposes this. The negotiating team’s briefings only strengthen Hamas’ position, harm families and delay the release of our hostages.”
The communication from Netanyahu’s office comes after the news that they will resume on Tuesday in Cairo negotiations to try to reach a truce between Israel and Hamas which will allow the release of the hostages still held in the Gaza Strip and the delivery of more aid for the Palestinian population, as an Egyptian official close to the negotiations told CNN. An Israeli source confirmed to CNN, on condition of anonymity, that negotiations will resume shortly, but without specifying the place or day.
However, Hamas made it known that it “has not received anything from the mediators” in view of the negotiations. This was stated by Hamas official Izzat al-Risheq quoted by Ynet. “We have not received anything from the mediators. What is clearly required is a permanent end to the war in the entire Gaza Strip, not just in Rafah. This is what our people are waiting for and this is our starting point,” he said.
Meanwhile, in view of the resumption of negotiations and following the requests of the International Court of Justice, the Times of Israel writes, quoting one of its sources, The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have revised their plan for Rafah and decided to limit operations.
Rocket launch
Today the Air raid warning sirens sounded in Tel Aviv and central Israel over rockets launched from the Gaza Strip. The rocket launch was claimed by the al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas. Eight rockets crossed the border into Israel after being launched from Rafah, the Israel Defense Forces said, explaining that many rockets were intercepted.
