The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, is today, January 9, 2023, in Tel Aviv, where he will try to convince the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to start serious negotiations on post-war governance in Gaza, to do more to protect the civilians and to allow more aid.
“I will push the absolute imperative to do more to protect civilians and to ensure that humanitarian assistance gets into the hands of those who need it,” said Blinken, who has spent the past two days in talks with leaders Arabs.
Israeli officials, meanwhile, will tell Blinken that Gaza civilians will not be allowed to return to the territory's north unless more hostages held by Hamas are released, Axios reported.
Just to take back the negotiations on the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, one delegation of Israeli security officials arrived in Cairo. This was announced by the Qatari newspaper based in London, al Araby al Jadeed, cited by Haaretz.
Meanwhile, four more Israeli soldiers were killed in Gaza, bringing to 180 the total number of soldiers killed since the start of the ground operation in the Strip at the end of October.
