The Israeli Army announced, this Friday (24), that it recovered three bodies of civilians that were held in Gaza by terrorists. One of them was Brazilian Michel Nisenbaum, 59 years old, considered to be a live hostage at the moment.
The action by the Defense Forces (IDF) took place on Thursday night (23), in a joint operation organized by the military and the Israeli internal security agency (Shin Bet), in Jabaliya, after a precise analysis of the country’s intelligence, obtained in recent days in the Palestinian enclave.
Born in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian had lived in Israel since 1988, after going through the immigration process. According to the Forum for Hostages and Missing Families, Michel was a man of many talents who, in addition to his work, also volunteered for Magen David Adom (Israel’s national emergency medical and disaster service) and the Border Police.
In addition to the Brazilian, two other bodies were recovered in the operation. Israeli Army intelligence confirmed that the three civilians were murdered on October 7, in Mefalsim or on the way to Jabaliya, in northern Gaza.
Michel was driving to pick up his granddaughter from the IDF’s Gaza Division base near Re’im when he was kidnapped by terrorists.
Israel believes that around 120 hostages kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 remain in Gaza, but not all of them are alive. In total, 105 civilians have been released so far during a week-long truce at the end of November, and four hostages had already been released from captivity before that period.
Three hostages were rescued alive by Israeli troops and the bodies of 19 hostages were recovered.
