Israel continues to attack targets of the Shiite Hezbollah militia in southern Lebanon, from where rockets and anti-tank missiles are launched across the border, which is experiencing its highest tension since 2006, in parallel with the war against the terrorist group Hamas in Gaza.
“This evening, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) attacked a terrorist cell in Lebanese territory, along with an anti-tank missile launching point,” said an Israeli military spokesman.
The terrorist cell planned to launch an anti-tank missile toward the Israeli town of Shlomi, which is among more than 40 communities in northern Israel that were evacuated for safety.
Hours earlier, the Army reported that it had attacked a Hezbollah military complex and observation post. Additionally, a plane dismantled another terrorist cell operating near the border.
The border between Israel and Lebanon is experiencing its most tense moment since 2006, when Israeli troops and Hezbollah fought a war, with intense exchanges of fire for 16 consecutive days and almost 50 deaths on both sides.
The Lebanese militia launched dozens of anti-tank missiles, rockets and mortars towards Israeli soil, where some of its men tried to infiltrate. In response, Israel began intense air and artillery attacks.
The escalation of tension on the border caused at least 47 deaths: six in Israel – five soldiers and one civilian – and 41 in Lebanon, including eight civilians – including an agency cameraman Reuters -, 27 members of Hezbollah and six members of Palestinian militias.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited troops on the northern front, where more and more forces are being deployed, and warned Hezbollah that if it enters the war, “it will make the worst mistake of its life.”
