It is the 1st major release after the country was once again warned by the International Court; food, water, fuel and medicine are some of the supplies
According to FDI (Israel Defense Forces), 360 trucks with humanitarian aid entered the Gaza Strip this Sunday (May 26, 2024) after security checks. The action was coordinated by Israel, the United States and Egypt.
Of this total, 126 trucks from Egypt entered Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing. They contained food, water, fuel, medical and shelter equipment, and medicine.
It is the first major release of humanitarian aid by land authorized by Israel after the country was warned by the ICJ (International Court of Justice, its acronym in English) on Friday (May 24). The main judicial body of the United Nations ruled that Israel could only maintain military actions in the Rafah region to protect itself against what it considers threats from Hamas and attempts to free hostages, and as long as the operation does not result in what could be considered genocide.
In addition to suspending some military activities, the Court also ordered Israel to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid across the border with Egypt, and to ensure access for international observers to monitor the situation. Israel must also report to the ICJ, within 1 month, the actions taken to comply with the order.
