Pumas arrived at the Ciudad de los Deportes Stadium with the task of scoring three goals and not conceding to get their ticket to the semifinals of Clausura 2024 of the MX League. In the first half, the UNAM team generated few opportunities up front and showed little drive.
At the beginning of the second half, the university students began showing another side. After showing a more offensive posture, UNAM managed to open the scoring. In the 51st minute, Guillermo Martínez, the brand new Mexican national team, appeared to get Pumas into the game.
After a long serve inside the area, Guillermo Martínez rose high inside the area and finished with a header to beat goalkeeper Kevin Mier. The ‘Memote’ shot was so good that it left the Colombian goalkeeper unable to react.
With this result, Pumas needs a couple more goals to advance to the semifinals. To get their ticket to the next round, the university students also need to keep zero behind.
After the goal against, Cruz Azul appeared in low spirits, while the cats seemed more encouraged and motivated to achieve the feat.
Do the ghosts of Cruz Azul revive? Is a new crusade approaching?
