The Lamborghini Squadra Corse has reached a collaboration agreement with the Iron Lynx team to work on the LMDh which will debut in 2024 in the FIA World Endurance Championship and in the IMSA SportsCar Championship.
The parties have talked for a long time in recent months and the announcement of the union of intentions was given in grand style in the theater of the Grand Finals of the Super Trofeo that the Sant’Agata Bolognese company organized over the weekend in Portimão.
Waiting for the arrival of next year, the Romagna team headed by DC Racing Solutions led by Deborah Mayer has in fact already begun to wear the colors of Toro with the participation in the Super Trofeo Europe races by the Iron Dames, Michelle Gatting and Doriane Pin, who drove a Huracán Super Trofeo Evo2 in the typical pink livery and with the # 83 on the side, in what is a preview of the presence in the Lamborghini single-brand store also for 2023.
In January, Iron Lynx will be the official team of Lamborghini Squadra Corse at the legendary 24h of Daytona, fielding three Huracán GT3s, one with the # 63, one with the # 19 and the inevitable # 83 of its girls. The race in Florida will be the team’s first engagement in the IMSA Endurance Cup, while the same cars will also be prepared for the Endurance Cup of the GT World Challenge Europe.
In parallel, work will continue with the LMDh prototype with the support of Prema Engineering and making use of the collaboration with Ligier, who takes care of the chassis, and Andrea Caldarelli and Mirko Bortolotti, official drivers of Lamborghini Squadra Corse already announced for the program.

“When we chose to take the LMDh road for 2024, as we have always done in our motorsport activities, we didn’t want to be alone, but we looked for a serious, reliable collaborator who had the same vision as we do looking ahead. “, commented Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann at the round table at which Motorsport.com took part in Portimao.
“LMDh is a very important and demanding challenge for Automobili Lamborghini, so knowing what the level of Iron Lynx was, it was clear right away that it was the right partner. I can also say that there is an excellent chemistry between us, the commitment will not only be in the world of prototypes, but we will also collaborate in the Super Trofeo and GT3, so for us it is the prospect of a successful union “.
“I am really proud and happy of all this, racing in the LMDh will give us a lot of visibility between the FIA WEC and IMSA, in a period of great technological changes that will lead us to use the hybrid also in the series product. And the endurance races there. they will allow you to learn so many things, for which I thank Iron Lynx and all the people involved in this program “.
“For us the American market is certainly the most important, we wanted to race in a series that would give us the right visibility. And for this reason the design of our LMDh will be immediately recognizable as a Lamborghini. On the other hand, we also evaluated the type of commitment. , without collapsing under the pressure that we will inevitably have “.

Also present at the press conference was Giorgio Sanna, head of Lamborghini Squadra Corse, who added: “For us, LMDh is a great challenge, for which we are ready. This was the right time to face it since we have acquired a lot of experience in the world of endurance racing with GTs, so it was also the natural step forward “.
“I am really proud to have Iron Lynx as a partner to compete in the major endurance categories, for our part we will provide maximum technical support to them and to Prema Engineering, which is equally involved in the team and has great experience. We are very happy to have three Italian companies involved in this adventure “.
“As for the drivers, in the coming months we will announce further names of those who will be involved, as we will also collaborate with Iron Lynx in other categories such as the Super Trofeo and GT3. This is part of the common vision of things, raising the bar and trying to always compete at the top always, so starting from GT3 is the best thing to prepare for in 2023 and then race with the LMDh in 2024 “.
“The project is in the final phase from an engineering point of view, the second part will concern the assembly of the various components and then start the tests in the company. The goal is to be able to get on track in the first half of 2023, ideally around March- April, for the first tests, slowly extending the duration of the sessions “.
“Iron Lynx has been involved from day one in this project, precisely because it is right that everyone knows how a machine develops from the design stage, also to save time. We are very confident that we can be ready for the first tests we will do in Europe. , but subsequently carrying on in parallel also in America with two cars at the beginning of the summer, given that the American tracks have very different characteristics from ours “.

It will be very demanding, but we want work hard to reach the highest level of performance “.
“The strength we can count on in Iron Lynx, Iron Dames and Prema is that we are able to squeeze ourselves to the maximum in every situation to always be at the top. We will start with the 24h of Daytona next January debuting with three cars, including that of the girls, then we will also have other programs that we will gradually define “.

The comment went to Andrea Piccini, Team Principal of Iron Lynx: “For us, the collaboration with Lamborghini is not a kind of novelty, but a return to origins because the first season of Iron Lynx as a team was in 2018 precisely in the Super Trofeo. We have had a long period of success in other categories and with other cars that have given us the opportunity to grow a lot and gain experience to get to compete in LMDh “.
“It is certainly a very challenging step forward to race at these levels, but we are convinced that we can do well in this new commitment, in parallel with those we will carry on between GT3 and Super Trofeo. At a certain point there is always the desire to doing something new and more, the LMDh represents all this because it will give us the opportunity to go to Le Mans to aspire to absolute success, as well as throughout the FIA WEC and IMSA “.
“We have known each other with Giorgio Sanna for many years, we started talking and agreed on the main points and ambitions. It is a fantastic project for which we have little time, but we are optimistic to be able to tackle the schedule while respecting all the points. and making us ready for the debut “.
