Minister Alaa al-Jubouri added: “The ministry has a plan to achieve food security for citizens, and to confront the global rise in foodstuffs, which was imposed by the recent crisis between Russia and Ukraine.”
Iraq, a major importer of grain, says it has taken urgent measures to secure strategic stocks of wheat and support the local ration card programme.
The most recent of these steps include increasing the purchase price of wheat from local farmers to 725,000 dinars ($497.08) per ton in the next season, from a price of up to 560,000 dinars in the previous season.
