The United States’ steps to lift sanctions against Iran are “good, but not enough”, the Iranian foreign minister said on Saturday, hours after Washington announced it would reinstate an exemption for some measures against the nuclear program. Tehran civilian.
“The lifting of some sanctions can, in the true sense of the word, be translated into goodwill. Americans talk about it, but it is necessary to know that what is on the papers is good, but it is not enough”, said Hossein Amir-Abdollahian quoted by the ISNA news agency.
The US State Department indicated on Friday it would lift sanctions imposed on Iran over its nuclear program as a necessary technical step to return to the 2015 deal between Tehran and major world powers.
The resumption of exemptions, interrupted in 2020 by former Republican President Donald Trump, allows other countries and companies to participate in Iran’s civilian nuclear program without applying US sanctions, in the name of promoting nuclear safety and non-proliferation.
The civilian program includes the country’s growing reserves of enriched uranium.
