Activists call for mass mobilizations after the end of mourning for the death of Mahsa Amini
The police repression does not stop the protests in Iran and the authorities adopted the first legal action of great magnitude since the beginning of the mobilizations more than a month ago. 516 people will be brought to trial for their active role in the most serious disturbances that the Islamic republic has suffered since 2019. Official agencies detail that 315 of the detainees are from Tehran, 201 from the rest of the provinces and among them there are four accused of « war against God’, a crime that can carry the death penalty. “These people will be punished,” declared the head of Iran’s judicial system, Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei. This is one of the first official data that is known since so far the Islamic regime does not offer figures of deaths or detainees.
The leadership of the Islamic republic accuses the United States and Israel of being behind protests that have taken over high schools and universities in recent days. It is 40 days since the death of Mahsa Amini and his family has received strong pressure not to hold a ceremony on this day in which mourning ends, according to Iranian custom, the ‘Iranwire’ portal advanced. In social networks, activists call to protest on the occasion of the end of the duel.
More than 200 deceased
The protests erupted after the death of the young Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini at the hands of the morality police on September 16. She was arrested in the streets of Tehran for not wearing her veil well and she did not leave the police station alive. Since then, mobilizations have been registered in all the provinces of the country and women are the ones who lead them to the cry of ‘woman, life and freedom’, a slogan that has crossed borders as can be seen in the marches that run through cities around the world. To protest in the Islamic republic is to risk your life and, according to data from non-governmental organizations, more than 200 protesters have lost their lives at the hands of the security forces.
