Iran executed four people by hanging – three men and one woman – for allegedly spying on Israeli intelligence, according to Iranian state media. The death sentence was confirmed, this Monday (29), after the Supreme Court denied the defendants' last appeal.
The Persian country condemned the alleged spies for illegally entering Iranian territory, from the Kurdistan region, to carry out a bombing mission at a factory based in Isfahan, responsible for producing equipment for the Iranian Ministry of Defense. In the decision, Vafa Hanareh, Aram Omari, Rahman Parhazo and Nasim Namazi were sentenced to death for “war against God” and “corruption on Earth”, for their “collaboration with the Zionist regime”.
Reports prepared by the Tehran regime indicated that the operation should take place in 2022, under the leadership of Mossad, Israel's intelligence and special operations agency.
The two countries have been in a silent war, in which they have been exchanging accusations for years and, more recently, over attacks in the Middle East, amid the conflict against Hamas. Israel accuses Iran of sponsoring bombings against the country, while the Persian country claims that Tel Aviv murdered several Iranian officials and scientists.
