Iran executed this Sunday (3) an alleged agent of the Mossad, Israel's intelligence service, convicted of involvement in a drone attack against military installations in the city of Isfahan, last year.
“A Mossad terrorist who attacked Defense Ministry facilities in Isfahan has been executed,” the news agency reported Tasnimlinked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
The executed man, whose identity was not disclosed, was accused of planning the operation and acquiring the drones with which a failed attack was carried out against military installations in Isfahan, a city that is home to missile production centers and nuclear installations, according to the Tasnim.
Hanged today, this alleged Mossad agent was captured 13 days after the attack “in a neighboring country”, according to the news agency.
The attack on the Isfahan military complex was carried out on January 29, 2023 with three drones that were neutralized by Iranian defense systems without causing significant damage, the Ministry of Defense indicated at the time.
In late January, Iran executed four Kurdish prisoners sentenced to death for allegedly working for the Mossad and planning to carry out an attack on Iranian defense facilities.
This is the latest in a series of executions and hanging sentences in Iran, the world's leading country in applying the death penalty, with 576 executions carried out in 2022, a substantial increase from the 314 the previous year, according to Amnesty International.
Human rights groups have reported the execution of up to 800 people in the country in 2023, most of them for crimes related to drug trafficking and possession. (With EFE Agency)
