In recent times, Apple has shown particular attention to display development of its products.
The very recent iPad Pro, which has adopted new OLED screens and advanced nano-texture technologies, is a clear demonstration of this.
Now, according to recent rumors, it seems that the turn of the Californian company’s smartphones has arrived: the iPhone 16 Pro models, after having obtained a new lateral sensor and a new arrangement of the cameras together with the entire range, could be close to receiving a brightness improvement.
This upgrade would result in a 20% increase in “brightness”; a significant upgrade, considering the last such increase dates back to the iPhone 13 Pro.
Brighter than basic
The news comes from Weibo, with the signature of the Instant Digital leaker, and concerns a transition of the peak brightness for the next iPhone Pro from 1000 nits to 1200 nits.
This is regarding the display of content in SDR.
It is important to note that Apple states the peak brightness in relation to HDR content, which for line 16 is 1600 nits.
Until now, Apple smartphones were stuck at 1000 nits for viewing in standard dynamic range, and this increase could be particularly useful when enjoying content under natural light on a daily basis, also considering how SDR is the most common format .
Apple’s new flagship devices, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, will benefit from this small but significant push to enhance the new displays, which we know, or at least we can assume from the size of the first leaked mockups, will increase in size 6.1 to 6.3 inches and 6.7 to 6.9 inchesrespectively.
Another novelty on the screen front will be the adoption of “Border Reduction Structure” technology which will help make the frames of the new Cupertino models even thinner.
