In recent years the battery has not been the strong point of the iPhone. But this aspect could be changing: Apple has considerably improved the battery life of the iPhone 13 over the previous generation. The terminal, with which the apple company intends to gain a foothold in the high-end range, also has better cameras – although it lacks a telephoto – and a powerful processor.
The iPhone 13 is available from 909 euros in five colors: pink, blue, black, white and red. On the outside, it is very similar to its predecessor, although it has two main changes in the design. On the one hand, in the rear camera module the lenses are oriented diagonally instead of vertically. On the other, the notch —The module at the top of the screen that houses the front camera — is smaller. In this way, Apple aims to promote a more immersive experience. In day-to-day use this notch doesn’t make much of a difference.
The terminal’s 6.1-inch screen is brighter than its predecessor but, unfortunately, it still maintains the 60 Hz refresh rate. This parameter refers to the speed with which the screen content is displayed. update. So the higher it is, the smoother the experience. Apple has kept 60 Hz in both the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 and has reserved 120 Hz for its two most ambitious mobiles – the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Year after year one of the strengths of the iPhone is usually its cameras. In addition to a 12-megapixel front sensor, the terminal has two sensors on its back: a main one and a wide-angle one, also 12 megapixels each. During the day, natural and realistic photos are obtained with a good level of detail. In low-light environments, there is an improvement over its predecessor. But there is still room for improvement. Especially when using the wide angle, which theoretically lets 47% more light through, greater sharpness is missing. While for many users these two sensors will be more than enough, it is possible that those more demanding look for alternatives beyond these two sensors. Like the iPhone 12 mini, the iPhone 13 lacks a telephoto.
Among the photographic novelties of the iPhone 13, are the photographic styles. It is a kind of filters that can be tested in real time before taking any photo. There are five options – standard, intense warm, bright, bright cold, and cold. Once one of them has been selected, it is also possible to adjust the tone and temperature. While all of these settings may not make much of a difference, they may be of particular interest to photo enthusiasts.
Although the iPhone 13 cannot record in 8K, the results that are achieved when taking videos are really good both when using the main sensor and in the case of the wide angle. The quality of the images and the stabilization that is achieved stand out, especially during the day. Apple is looking for more and more professional results and the new cinematic mode is a step towards achieving this. With it, it is possible to record people, pets and objects with a depth effect reminiscent of portrait mode. By focusing and blurring certain subjects, the viewer’s entire attention can be focused on a certain part of the shot.
Performance and battery
The performance of the iPhone 13 is one of its strengths. The terminal debuts one of the most powerful processors on the market: the A15 Bionic uses five-nanometer technology and has almost 15,000 million transistors. The experience with this mobile, which is also compatible with 5G networks, is expected from a high-end mobile in all cases. In the test carried out by this newspaper, no type of lag or delay when taking videos and photos, playing games or surfing the Internet. The internal storage of the terminal starts at the end of 128 GB. There is also a 256GB version and a 512GB version.
Apple never reveals how many mAh its cell phone batteries have. On this occasion he has promised that the autonomy of the iPhone 13 is an hour and a half greater than that of the iPhone 12. And the improvement is appreciable. In general, with normal and even intensive use of the mobile, the whole day is reached. However, charging is still a bit slow compared to the competition, and Apple doesn’t include the charger in the box. The measure seeks to reduce both carbon dioxide emissions and the mining of materials used in these products, but also makes some users have to pay more for this accessory.
