face mask dealThe investigation into the mega deal with Sywert van Lienden about millions of mouth caps is taking longer again. Deloitte thinks it will not be possible to conclude this year whether the deal between the government and Van Lienden was substantive, practical and legal.
State Secretary Paul Blokhuis (Medical Care, CU) reports this in a letter to the House of Representatives. The report has already been postponed. According to Blokhuis, the culprit is the enormous lump of data that the accountants have to look at. The ‘full data transfer’ therefore takes longer than expected.
‘To illustrate: the data from our ministry already concerns 135 mailboxes, network drives and chat messages,’ Blokhuis writes. ‘It concerns millions of documents that must be secured and filtered in accordance with forensic requirements.’ This year, Deloitte is no longer able to deliver the research, previously September was the goal of his predecessor Tamara van Ark (VVD).
Mega deal
Van Lienden and the ministry are under heavy fire after the mega deal in the first wave. The mask entrepreneur profiled himself for a long time as a benefactor who wanted to help healthcare without making a profit (‘free’), but in the meantime he made 9 million euros in profit and his business partners also touched almost 20 million in total.
Volunteers from Van Liendens Hulptroepen Alliantie knew nothing about the generous commercial returns, they now want – just like the House of Representatives – that Van Lienden pays back the money. He refuses that. Lawyer Peter Plasman has filed a report on behalf of the volunteers to get the money back.
In the meantime, Deloitte has to check whether the order is correct. The questions that need to be answered include: why did the ministry team up with Van Lienden after a negative advice from its own purchasing center? How did the CDA come in? Were the contracts good, and wasn’t the price too high?
