A Korean computer engineer couldn’t miss the opportunity to “dedicate” to the now defunct web browser Internet Explorer from Microsoft a kind of tribute.
As we reported, Microsoft has discontinued support for the once dominant browser that many web surfers used to navigate the internet. The application after 27 years now joins BlackBerry phones, dial-up modems and many other obsolete technology that is no longer needed.
In this regard, Jung Ki-young decided to commemorate the disappearance of Internet Explorer by spending $ 330 for a tombstone. The tomb includes the iconic logo just above the epitaph: “It was a good tool for downloading other browsers”. After the memorial was displayed in a café run by her brother in the southern city of Gyeongju, the photo of the tombstone went viral.
Jung said the memorial serves to show his mixed feelings for the old software, which had played such an important role in his working life. “I would call it a love-hate relationship because Explorer himself once ruled an era,” said Jung.
