Aden (Al-Ittihad)
The International Organization for Migration reported in a recent report that more than 6.7 million people in Yemen are in need of shelter assistance during the current year, due to the Houthi war and climate change.
The report indicated that the Houthi coup led to the destruction of infrastructure and the collapse of basic services, prompting millions of Yemenis to flee in search of safety.
Displaced people now face many challenges, including overcrowding and harsh living conditions, which increase their exposure to diseases and risks. Climate change has also caused disruptions in the rainfall pattern, leading to floods that severely damage homes, shelters, and roads.
Since last year 2023, the International Organization for Migration has implemented a set of shelter interventions, including supporting about 2,500 families with transitional shelters, more than 1,000 families with kitchen support, and more than 4,000 families with non-food items.
This aid comes with funding from various international bodies, including the United States Agency for International Development’s Office of Humanitarian Aid, the European Union for Humanitarian Aid, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, the German Federal Foreign Office, and the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund.
