Inter, the painful sale of the Casadei jewel is only good for the budget

Cesare Casadei, Inter’s spring captain

Inter sells Casadei for 20 million and certifies its budget problems

Until a few weeks ago Cesare Casadei he was a young man with high hopes, captain of Inter’s Primavera, unknown to most. Today he has turned into a potential craque and, more importantly, a probable regret for the Beloved. Briefly the facts: for a month there was talk of the interest of the boy, born in 2003, by various European teams. Then the Chelsea of the American billionaire Bohely reached the price requested by Inter: 20 million (15 fixed plus five bonuses) who convinced Marotta to pack the baby phenomenon and greet him with destination London. It is the second baby transfer of this transfer market session after the farewell to Andrea Pinamonti also ended up at Sassuolo for 20 million.

From here, however, the more complex disquisitions begin. Did Inter make the right choice? From a sporting point of view, judgment could be suspended. Historically, the Italian league, if superstars such as Paolo Maldini or Francesco Totti are excluded, has always been “allergic” to young talents, especially our own. And Inter in this has always been all the more ready to invest in established players, rather than in prospects. Proof of this is the Radja Nainggolan deal of 2018: Niccolò Zaniolo ends up in Roma for 4.5 million while the Belgian midfielder is valued almost 40 million. Fast forward a year and it turns out that Nainggolan, who also scored the decisive goal to qualify for the Champions League, is a burden and is out of the squad. For Zaniolo, on the other hand, we are talking about an evaluation around 60 million. It is true that Inter have 15% of the proceeds on a possible resale but …

The problem, if anything, is to understand that the budget of the Beloved it’s a time bomb. Burdened by 700 million in total debt, hanging on loan from 275 million (with an annual rate of 12%) granted by Oaktree which will expire in May 2024. Forced, therefore, to sell valuable pieces every year in the hope of saving the feathers. Last year they were discharged Romelu Lukaku (for 115 million) and Achraf Hakimi for about sixty. This year it seemed that things could get better, because the budgetary needs spoke of a need of 60 million by June 30, 2023. But the hands are tied, as evidenced by the impossibility of sinking for Paulo Dybala (finished on a free transfer to Rome) and for Gleison Bremer (later married to Juve). Not only that: the very painful sale of Casadei – because it is difficult to think that Chelsea has suddenly gone mad and has decided to give 20 million to Inter – may not be enough and could also greet Milan Skriniaridol of the fans and pivot of defense.

A complex scenario in which, among other things, the management is trying to get by as best they can, among the diktats of Steven Zhang and the desperate cries of the coach Simone Inzaghi. Casadei will become a great player, a potential for Marco Verratti in a more robust physique. Inter will only be able to bite their hands, hoping however that the boy’s sacrifice was not in vain. If, in fact, in the last days of the transfer market a big player were to leave, then yes, we would have to tremble.
