A fight has broken out within the ‘influencer’ world and the cause was an Inditex gift card. The content creator Mada Mariño, focused on fashion, has published a video on TikTok in which she explains why she has so many clothes from this group’s stores and the response of some colleagues has caused a stir.
«Why do ‘influencers’ have infinite money in Zara or at least that’s what it seems like? For example, every month they give me a 150 euro card. It is a privilege, obviously,” says Mariño in the video. «You can spend this card at Inditex and show the things you like most. I think the videos I make with this content are very useful,” he explains, referring to the ‘haul’ content he shares. However, the ‘influencer’ makes it clear that she only keeps what suits her and she loves: “Whatever doesn’t, I return.”
Mariño – with 286,500 followers on TikTok and 153,000 on Instagram – wanted to create this video so that people know how he has access to all those clothes. Something that, on the other hand, is not a surprise to most people. However, some content creators have questioned the ‘influencer”s words: “One question, where do they give that card?” commented Natalia Palacios (with more than a million followers on TikTok), “To me It doesn’t happen to me eh, HA HA HA HA”, wrote Marina Barrial (584,100 followers on TikTok), “What are you telling me”, wrote the ‘influencer’ Fabiana Sevillano (about 900,000 followers on TikTok) or the “WHAAAT” by Lidia Rauet (3.2 million on TikTok and 1.1 million on Instagram), among other responses to the post.
The company in charge of giving away these cards is Pull and Bear, as Mariño explains in another video that he uploaded after the commotion that the first one caused. “They are cards that Pull gives, but with what people earn from a social media campaign, I think the least surprising thing is a 150 euro card from Inditex,” he explains in the video and in some comments in his own post.
Mariño states that it is not something that everyone can benefit from on social networks, since it depends on the market niche you are dedicated to. “Just like I don’t work with Dior and there are people who do,” he argued. “I’m looking at the comments and I see people very surprised when it’s something we’ve been seeing on social media for 10 years,” he noted. And the content creator expresses that it is still another form of advertising that companies use.
Other ‘influencers’ have come out in defense of Mariño and have indicated that they have also received these gift cards. This is the case of Ángela Henche, who has been collaborating with Pull and Bear for a year. “Every month I upload a look labeled as ‘gift’ that I buy with a gift card,” she indicated in a video.
In the same post, Henche considers that there are other aspects of more relevance than the number of followers, since this content creator believes that the ‘influencers’ who have commented on Mariño’s video may have reacted this way because they have more followers and not have that card. «There are things that matter beyond followers: having a loyal community, a community in which respect, loyalty, credibility abound, there are many things that are not a number that you put on your profile. And you have to understand that not all brands want the same people,” he expressed.
