Ineos Grenadier it wants to be an off-road vehicle truly ready for anything. For this reason, as part of a complete testing program, an example of the British company’s 4×4 off-road vehicle was put to the test underground, to be precise in K+S potash mine in Zielitz, Central Germany. The reason? “Evaluate the reliability and capability of the Grenadier in an industrial application particularly challenging in inhospitable and salt-rich environments that pose difficulties for any vehicle”Ineos reports.
Underground testing
For the occasion this example of Grenadier, in addition to standard underbody protections i.e. front, rear and tank plates, has been equipped with what the company itself defines as “a series of tricks up the sleeve“: we are talking not only about the best anti-corrosion protection, but also about a complete electroplating treatment, sealing wax in the cavities and powder coating of the bodywork.
Uncongenial environment
So, after being subjected during the development phase to beyond 1.8 million km of testing in extreme conditions, including temperatures of -35° C and altitudes of over 2,500 metres, without forgetting the infamous Mount Schöckl in Austria, the new Grenadier also stopped at the K+S potash mine in Zielitz: it is a complex from which every day they are extracted approximately 45,000 tons of raw saltand which covers an area of 61 square kilometers and includes areas 1,300 meters below the Earth’s surface.
Ineos Grenadier
“The extreme testing conditions they are nothing new to the Grenadier as we put it to the test during the development phase – commented Lynn Calder, CEO of Ineos Automotive – But it’s great to work with partners around the world to demonstrate the excellent performance of our 4X4 on-road, off-road and now even underground“.
