Dutch industry produced clearly more in August than in the same month a year earlier, reports the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). The average daily production was 5.9 percent higher.
In addition, the statistical office notes that several factories where cars, buses and trucks and parts for them are built, were shut down part of the time last August due to chip shortages.
It is therefore not surprising that the transport equipment sector was one of the subsectors where the year-on-year increase was the largest. Only mechanical engineering grew even faster. The production of electrical and electronic equipment was also considerably higher than a year earlier. By contrast, the production of rubber and plastic, as well as chemical products, declined. High oil and gas prices weigh heavily on this sector.
Entrepreneurs in the industry have become less positive for the second month in a row. They became more pessimistic about their order position, in particular.
