A double play with the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth inning allowed the Indios de Ciudad Juárez to defeat the Mineros de Parral 5-4 on Friday night and thus strike first as the playoffs of the 2024 season of the State Baseball League get underway.
Up 1-0 in the series to win three of five possible games, Indios and Mineros will once again face each other this Saturday starting at 7:00 pm at the Gran Estadio Parral.
Reliever Edwin Zamudio took the win, while the loss was charged to Carlos Gastélum.
Tied 4-4 at the end of nine innings, the Juarez team regained the lead in the opening of the tenth inning thanks to a sacrifice fly by Carlos ‘Hulk’ Díaz.
With two outs in the bottom of that same inning, Parral managed to load the bases with the possibility of leaving the border team lying down, but the double play came to declare the victory for the Indians.
“Yes, a very important victory to start the playoffs, the Mineros are a very tough team, we know that, they are always series to die for and the team always showed its mettle,” said the manager of the Indios, Iván Gallegos, through Indios TV.
