Independent Medellin took advantage of the tie between Defensa y Justicia and Always Ready in the early hours and approached the top of Group A of the Copa Sudamericana after defeating Cesar Vallejo University 4-2 at the Atanasio Girardot stadium. For the Colombians, Jhon Vásquez scored twice, Brayan León and Mender García.
In the first half, Medellín went ahead on the scoreboard with John Vasquez who received a cross from Anderson Plata on the right and there the player took a first shot that bounced off a defender and instantly took a left foot shot to beat the rival goalkeeper.
Towards 22', the local team increased the difference again with Vásquez who successfully took a penalty to the center of the goal.
In the second half, Medellín continued ahead and in the 48th minute they scored the third goal with Brayan León Muñiz who fought for the ball in a great way, touched it gently and that dislocated the goalkeeper who came out for the ball, but the striker continued and on the floor he pushed her to the goal.
At 55', DIM had the chance to score the fourth with León Muñiz in a play where Plata filtered it to the attacker and he passed it to the goalkeeper. However, the goal was invalidated by the VAR.
After this play, Medellín left many spaces and this was taken advantage of by César Vallejo who scored with Yorleys Mena. Then, Jairo Vélez scored the second for the Peruvians from the penalty spot after a handball from Jimer Fory in the area.
Faced with this bad moment for Medellín, the Poderoso team breathed in the 79th minute in a great associative play in which Baldomero Perlaza participated and the midfielder passed it to Mender García who defined with a left foot.
With the victory, Medellín added its first three points and is third in group A, one behind Defensa y Justicia and Always Ready. In the next match they will face Defensa again at home.
