In the State Duma after the sanctions against the deputies accused Europe of insincerity

European politicians who voted for the introduction of personal sanctions against State Duma deputies who supported the decision on Russia’s recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) are insincere in their desires. Such an accusation was made by the head of the Duma Committee on the CIS, Leonid Kalashnikov, reports RIA News.

In his opinion, it would be more fair to punish businessmen who spend money in Europe, although they are not directly related to the situation in Donbass. Kalashnikov is sure that the pressure on the deputies speaks of the place where democratic values are in Europe – the tenth or twentieth, but not the first.

“It is easier for them to punish deputies than businessmen who take them there, to London, money, build palaces, houses, stadiums there,” the politician said. Apparently, the deputy misspoke, since London is the capital of Great Britain, and the kingdom is no longer a member of the EU, it has imposed separate sanctions against Russia.

The MP also indicated that he intends to be guided by the interests of voters, and not by the countries of Europe. In addition, he is sure that sanctions will not interfere with an honest deputy.

In total, 351 Russian parliamentarians have been added to the black list. Deputies whose names were not on the list of those who supported the document were able to avoid sanctions. Among them, in particular, the speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, as well as Pavel Krasheninnikov, Andrei Makarov, Sergei Neverov, Valentina Tereshkova, Vladislav Tretiak and Irina Yarovaya.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR on February 21. The next day it was ratified by both houses of the Russian parliament.

Britain, the US and the European Union, as promised, immediately introduced the first package of sanctions. At the same time, in case of further escalation, they threaten to significantly increase the pressure. One of the most high-profile first decisions was the suspension of certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in Germany for an indefinite period.
