The leaders of the 27 countries of the European Union have met in Versailles under the rotating presidency of French President Emmanuel Macron with the scenario of the war in Ukraine leaving in its wake multiple challenges for the bloc and the question of whether Europe will come out stronger of this war or quite the opposite. Issues such as energy sovereignty or the management of the large number of refugees, with a figure that is already moving towards 3 million Ukrainians, appear to be crucial.
The impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine is going to have important consequences at all levels in the economy and it already has them in energy prices, in the enormous number of refugees and in Defense.
Putin’s invasion has put basic issues for its sheer survival on the table of the European Union, which we try to analyze in this edition of Spotlight along with our guests: María Eugenia Sanín Vázquez, economics professor specializing in energy; Luis Rivas, former correspondent in Moscow; Patricia Páez, journalist specializing in migration issues, contributor to porCausa; and in duplex, our correspondent in Brussels, Esther Herrera.
