Real estate records indicate that Zuckerberg’s Calauco LLC purchased a 110-acre (44.5 hectare) site in Hawaii last month.
The purchase was made for $ 17 million, by a company owned by the “Fluiger” family, according to the local newspaper, “Honolulu Star Adviser”.
The deal covers most of the lake that overflowed in 2006, killing seven people, after a section of the dam burst after 40 days of near-constant rain.
In 2014, a state judge sentenced Fleuger to seven months in prison, released him in 2015, and died in 2017 at the age of 91.
Ben LaBolt, a spokesman for the couple, said Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chang, are committed to doing their part in meeting legal requirements and promoting the safety of the lake.
The lake in the enchanting Hawaiian archipelago is still unrestored and is on the US state’s list of high-risk dams.
LaBolt said the couple plan to expand their farming, ranching, wildlife conservation and wildlife business on the ground.
