German Cabinet of Ministers: Scholz’s words about Ukraine’s non-entry into NATO were misinterpreted
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s words that Ukraine may not join NATO for the next 30 years have been misinterpreted. This was stated by the official representative of the German Cabinet of Ministers, Steffen Hebestreit, his words are reported by RIA News.
“The Chancellor tried to express bewilderment at Russia’s launch of a Special Military Operation. His words about 30 years referred to the situation in 2022. I believe that the situation has completely changed, and therefore, no, 30 years are no longer relevant,” the representative explained.
However, Hebestreit did not give an exact answer to the question about the new dates for Ukraine’s accession to NATO. In his opinion, this decision should be discussed “within the alliance and with Ukraine itself.”
Earlier, Scholz said that Ukraine would probably not join the North Atlantic Alliance in the next 30 years. He noted that he spoke about this publicly, recalling his visit to Moscow at the beginning of 2022. The Chancellor emphasized that he spoke about this in Kyiv two and a half years ago.
